[News] Little progress with French mobile TV
Before we started working on ThirdPresence and streaming video in general, we used to do DVB-H stuff, mainly server-side software. France is definitely not an exception, more like one more country that is facing the same woes. For broadcast mobile TV to really take off, a whole lot more handsets with pre-integrated DVB-H chips would be needed alongside client APIs (even with just a simple support for JSR-272) to create some cool user interfaces and services..
"The French media authority CSA has called for a meeting in February with all interested parties to discuss progress of mobile TV in the country.
There seems to be little interest from the broadcasters and the three main mobile operators (Orange, SFR and Bouygues Telecom) to launch a DVB-H service and the authority now hopes to speed up the process. According to a report in L’Express, the CSA has approached a fourth mobile operator, Iliad’s Free, to gauge interest.."
